I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I get to visit Paris every few months. It’s one of the only cities in the world I never get bored of; there’s always so much to see and do.
This time, I decided to go ‘film only’, taking my holga, a lubitel TLR and a Praktica SLR. I’m so glad I did as I had such a great time playing around with the cameras, especially in the evenings where I would just randomly guess exposure times. I ended up taking 14 rolls of 120 and 3 rolls of 35mm:
The weather was dark, grey and rainy so I used mainly b&w during the day and colour for the evenings.
Out of all the cameras, I have to say that I was most impressed with the Praktica SLR. Now I know it’s not anywhere near lo-fi, but I really enjoyed using a nice film SLR for a change (burn him!). I enjoyed it so much in fact, it’s got me hankering for a MF 6×6 SLR such as the Bronica SQA(burn him and throw him off the cliff!).
So here are some of the photos from Paris, arranged by camera:
Holga
Lubitel
There was more, but I got streaking on some of the roll
Praktica

Cool, Love the orange eiffel tower photo. Very sharp for a holga.
Lovin’ the new wider layout too.
Great photos!
which film speed did you use?
Hi David,
Thanks! All the film was 400, and I’m glad I used that as it was so gloomy!
The film was either:
5xFuji Neopan 400CN (b&w C41 Process)
2x Ilford XP2 Super 400 120 (ditto)
5xExpired(2007) Kodak Portra 400VC (colour)
2xFuji Superia 400(colour)
1xTesco 35mm colour film
3xIlford XP” Super 400 35mm
wow, that was a bit of a geeky reply! I’m not even a film geek really, as shown by the use of tesco film!
Thank you for your answer. I’m in Paris and with a 100 ISO b&w in my Holga I think It will be very hard to take decents photos
(It’s my first lomo experience).
You might be suprised, 100 should be ok in the daytime if it’s a nice sunny day with blue skies. If in doubt use my rule of taking 10 different photos of the same thing, all with different exposuer times! At least one should be correct.
Excellent. I am so surprised to see everything done with iso speed of 400… I appreciate your works and have to say you’ve got a talent on seeing things. I’ve been to paris 12 or more times and been to almost all the city places you show here. I travel myself a lot, all around the world and I would like to contribute with some of the stuff I do in your holgablog.com
Regards, Arne

Hi, love the photos – Paris is such a great place for getting images. Some of my B&W Holga pictures from there are up here: http://flickr.com/search/?q=paris+holga&m=tags&w=60479251%40N00&s=int
Glad to have found what looks to be a really interesting site here, too. Would love to contribute, but not sure if I have the time this side of May…
Hi scribe,
Your photos are brilliant, love that moody metro sign!
If you fancy contributing once you have a bit more time, drop me an email(andrew@goatkarma.com) or a flickrmail(username: goat karma), and I can set you up to contribute
