Introducing… Veronica

raine-record-small_edited-12

as far as i can tell, i’m the newbie of this group.  of course, i did a lot of point-and-shoot with 35mms growing up (and polaroids for a copule of years).  i always enjoyed it and thought i took better pictures than my parents, but i wouldn’t say i was really *into* it.  my awesome point-and-shoot 35 mm skills shifted towards point-and-shoot digicams (with a very brief stint of crappy/pricy APS).  i still wasn’t very serious about it.  i do love antiques and old technology and i picked up some old cameras along the way, but i never ran film through them.

fast forward to early 2009.  i’m a 3L (3rd year law student) at the U of M, living in downtown minneapolis.  i’m sick of school, sick of being broke, sick of everything.  holed up in my apartment, i read a book that features a holga.  i’ve heard about this camera before, but never paid more attention.  as i’m trying to crawl out of a depression, i decide photography might be a good hobby (other than smoking bowls and listening to old records) and buy a holga starter kit from amazon.

now, i’m hooked.  i carry my holga around everywhere.  i started developing my negatives at home and got some printed.  realizing how pricy that was, i went and splurged (remember i’m broke) on a canon 8800f scanner and ip4600 printer.  i now develop in my bathroom and scan/print in my dining room… and i love it!

as i’m a total beginner, i’m guessing most of my posts will be about my experiences with taking pictures, processing negatives and maybe even scanning.  feel free to ask me any questions about what i’m doing.  i’m sure i’ll ask you questions too!  i’ve been learning through trial and error so far, occasionally with some unintended awesome results.

especially as i’m just getting into the world of holga and photography, i’m very excited to be a part of this blog and community.  thanks for letting me in!

Cool pics; they convey a really interesting and brooding atmosphere. I love the double exposure – surreal! Are there bubbles in the sky?

thanks! i wish i could say those bubbles were on purpose! something went wrong during development (not sure what, but i know i was distracted while processing that roll) and i have bubbles in the sky in all of them!

    i had a question about what films i used…
so far i’ve been using ilford hp5+, developed in ilfosol 3. i’d love to experiment, but figured i should get my act together developing one combination before moving on to others.

i just bought some ilford fp4+… we’ll see how that goes. :)

lovely photos. i only hope that this new replacement holga i’m getting, will live up to the same flaws that we all desire. i think that it’ll be very interesting to read what you’re learning in photography as well.

I think holgagraphy would tie in nicely with your other hobbie’s! To be a civilian again… :) I love that your going the b&w route.
