At long last, here is the first holgablog collaborative double exposure, aka film swap. arne shot a roll of shanghai GP3 100 film in riga, latvia with his holga, then sent it to me all the way in minneapolis, minnesota, USA to double expose. each of these is a double exposure, although some are difficult to see. i shot a roll and sent it to arne, so round 2 is coming up soon.

These turned out great!
That 2nd to last one is amazing!! The coffee/table inside, then the rest is outside…works brilliantly!
/dons pretentious hat.
One could say that the coffee shop/church is a social commentary on how, in this starbucks-fuelled capitalist society, modern city-dwellers see the coffee shops as their church, and the coffee/cake as their communion. or something. I’m not very good at being pretentious…needs more work.
This sounds as if it would be way too much fun to do! Very cool idea! Thanks for posting, Veronica!
And, at the very least, Andrew, I think we could say that, in centuries past, churches used to be the center of a city, a place for people to congregate (both for worship & socialization) to come together as community while Starbucks & the like have (sadly, IMO) replaced it for many as thier place of socialization & community. I caught that, too.
Hey that is incredible.
I was away for a while and today I got developed Veronicas roll of film overexposed by me. Getting ready for some scanning job in next days, then I will post round 2 here.
What I can say, out of these pictures the slide into water, coffee shop and table with cups&bright external outside are my faves. I also like the picture of my wife, although due to bright/less bright conditions there’s not so much double effect in it.
Looking forward & DEFINITELY COME BACK IN FEW DAYS TO CHECK OUT MY ROUND OF THE SWAP AT HOLGABLOG.COM
i really love how these turned out! considering holga’s unpredictability and double exposure’s unpredictability, i’m surprised how many turned out so well!
to give you guys a bit of insight into the process, arne took notes and sketches of each frame. i then misplaced the notes from frames 5-9, so the church over coffee shop is an awesome fluke.
my favorites from round 1:
slide/door hinge – looks like mixed media art!
coffee/church – i had some of the same thoughts as andrew
mpls/riga (cat’s house) – i love the juxtaposition of the two cities. this one (to me) exemplifies the film swap perfectly!
open air cafe – this one just worked out so much better than i could have ever planned/thought of! i believe arne’s head is somewhere in the trees.
Arne’s head is always in the clouds. That’s obvious because he’s an architect. I keep looking again and again and I always reveal more details as I look to the pictures.
