To Mount Rushmore and back… with a Commie Camera

i took the bar exam this summer (to get my attorney license) and afterwards, thought i deserved a vacation.  i’d always wanted to go to mount rushmore and i had the urge to take my first solo road trip.  i took off one thursday afternoon with my dog, some kodak gold 200 and my blue fed-2.  my ever-handy holga was accidentally left behind, but i did find an ansco shur-shot in my car’s backseat.  (unfortunately, i can’t find the roll of film that i took with it, but if i find it, i’ll update this post.)

the trip was spur of the moment, so i hadn’t checked any calendars.  turns out it was also the last weekend of the sturgis motorcycle rally.  being around so many harleys made the weekend that much more patriotic.  it also made for a crazy experience – over 500,000 riders show up annually.  between the monument and the bikers, there were american flags everywhere… and there i was, snapping away with my commie cam.  :)

these are some of the pictures that best highlight the trip – i hope you enjoy them!

Holga Wide and Tele Lens test shots

Here are a few test shots I took in my back yard a couple of weeks ago using the new Holga Wide and Tele lenses.  For comparison, I stood in the same spot and took them all from the same angle (as best I could!).
I will keep trying out the lenses in some more different [...]

Review: Holga 120 WPC

I was originally going to start this review of the 120 WPC off quite technically – what the WPC stood for, what features it had, what the f-stop was. That kind of thing. Then I realised I’d been sucked into what I actually try to avoid in photography: geekspeak. So while some of the specifics [...]
