The (not real) HOLGA D

Indian industrial designer Saikat Biswas has come up with a novel and frankly, fantastic looking digital Holga.  He calls it the Holga D.

Saikat has managed to merge the key elements of the Holga and combine them with a digital sensor.  We would love to see Holga make something similar.

More information available on his site:

http://www.saikatbiswas.com/web/Projects/Holga_D.htm

It’s a really interesting read, and he has put a lot of time and thought into designing this Holga D.

So what do you say Holga…time to make the Holga D ;-)

i-holga? Yes I love film, but I’m also ready to embrace the future, after all I own both LP’s and mp3′s I’d love to own one, I would keep it next to my film one in my camera bag!

For me, it would all have to do with the price-point. If it were sub $100, I could see myself buying one. Conceptually, I think it’d be fun to have a cheapo digi-cam w/o a display.

That said, reading terms such as “full-frame” & “e-ink,” and given the niche market, there’s no way it could come under a hundred bucks.

So, while I disagree with the logic that says “Holgas have to be film” cameras, I’d also have to say no to the Holga D, as it would end up being just another way to strip money from hipsters.

Have you considered asking Saikat Biswas if he’d be interested in doing an interview for Holgablog? It might be interesting to hear how he came up with the project for example. Also, I’d like to know how he made those images. They are very realistic!!

We did try contacting him, but did not receive a reply. We will probably try again in coming months.

Even though this is a super cool idea… I don’t know if I’d buy one… Holgas got me excited about film again after going mainly digital for years.

i think this is one of the greatest ideas i’ve seen in a long time. as much as a Holga should be film, i agree with this idea 150% of creating a digital version of a Holga. love the idea that you will not be able to view your photo until uploaded. i back this up 100%!! MAKE IT & I WILL BUY IT!!

Make it and it will sell loads if the pricetag is right. 99€.
Its a great product and is what Holga would do today.
How do you film whinning lovers upload and show your pictures?

Us ‘whinning’ film lovers usually have scanners that allow us to upload our photos and show them…..weird, hey?

i do say keep analogue analogue, but at least make a digital based on film. no screen, full manual, that joyful look… and (going by the the stack of old canon lenses), should make it compatible with the company’s film lenses.

and I would love a holga D. i’ll still use film when i can, but film doesn’t come cheap so this would still allow me to have fun =3

Love Holga’s but I have a few digital cameras and I like what they do as well. But I’m one of the hold-outs with the film to digital conversion. For my personal work, I still like the “look” of film. Not to mention the fact that none of the current makers of high-end DSLR’s have figured out yet how to make B/W digital images comparable to B/W film. They’re getting closer but they still have more work to do. As for the Holga-D, I would buy one, possibly two without a second thought. It’s a great concept and it would only enhance my creativy more.

I would buy this one. It’s an amazing idea, must say. Where i can get this camera? And how much would it cost?
